Employment discrimination occurs in a wide variety of circumstances and actions. Employers discriminate when they allow fellow workers to harass other employees because of their race or national origin. It also happens when a much more qualified employee is passed over for a raise or promotion based on gender or religion. Likewise, not hiring you because you are female is also a form of discrimination. Some of the more common types of discrimination include the following:
- Age Discrimination
- Disability Discrimination
- National Origin Discrimination
- Race/Racial Discrimination
- Religion-Religious Discrimination
- Sex Discrimination
Sexual Orientation Discrimination (Gay or Lesbian)
State and Federal laws protect individuals from discrimination, including Title VII (race and gender), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA). The law and facts involved in these cases are much different than other typical civil cases.
